A few days ago, COWEKO 2022 Autumn International Conference was grandly opened at Pusan University, South Korea, and teachers from the School of Comics in Jilin Animation Institute (JAI) were invited to attend the conference.
The conference invited university professors and industry experts from Korea, China, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia and other countries to discuss and exchange the development of animation industry and related applications through the combination of offline and online, focusing on the theme of “Comics and Urban Regeneration”.

During the conference, Jia Ziyu, a teacher from the School of Comics in JAI published the Research on The Application of Paper Cutting Art in Comics Creation of Ulla Manchu in “the theory and industry” branch venue. Through the analysis of Ulla Manchu paper-cut art, she studies the pluralistic integration and innovative practice of Ulla Manchu paper-cut art, focusing on the modeling language, narrative techniques and aesthetic emotion. While spreading and developing Ulla Manchu folk culture, comic creation is regarded as one of the ways to implement pluralistic integration and innovative practice.
JAI is committed to providing a diversified international exchange platform for teachers and students, improving teachers’ international vision and international academic dialogue ability, and boosting the construction of international teaching and talent system.

After the Comics Education Forum from 2007 to 2008 and the Korea Comics Policy Research Institute from 2017 to the present, COWEKO was officially established in January 2021 as the only academic organization dedicated to comics and webtoons in Korea. The institute has been gathering domestic and foreign professors, lecturers, graduate students, experts, and companies engaged in comic research and education, working hard for the development of Korean comics and web comics.
