School of Animation Art was established in 2000 which is the earliest one in China to offer an animation undergraduate major. It is one of the first batch of national characteristic majors, a national first-class undergraduate major construction site, and characteristic high-level majors in Jilin Province (Class A).The school adheres to the school motto of "self-esteem, Self-discipline, Innovation, and Creation", promotes the school’s core culture of "Kindness, Erudition, consummation, and perfection", deepens the integration of industry and education, art and science, as well as science and innovation, forming industrial and international professional characteristics, and cultivating innovative and applied talents with innovative spirit, pioneering spirit, national sentiment, and international perspective.The school has three professional directions: 2D animation, 3D animation, and new media animation, with over 2600 undergraduate students enrolled.
The school has a group of senior experts and high-end talents with rich practical experience in the animation industry, including renowned Chinese animation directors and art design masters. It also has more than 200 international visiting professors such as Mark Osborne, the Director of "Kung Fu Panda", and has built a high-level, international double qualified faculty with excellent professional ethics, moderate scale, reasonable structure. We have a Jilin Province Huang Danian style teaching team, a provincial-level teaching team, and a provincial-level curriculum ideological and political teaching team.
The school focuses on students’ development and implements a precise talent cultivation model of "three independent choices and classified training", constructing a characteristic model of party building leading ideological and political education with "three integrations and three transitions". We have established a number of high-level courses and textbooks with animation professional characteristics, including national first-class courses, provincial-level virtual simulation experimental teaching first-class courses, provincial-level offline first-class courses, provincial-level ideological and political demonstration courses, provincial-level subject education demonstration courses, the "14th Five Year Plan" professional planning textbooks recommended by the Animation and Digital Media Education Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education, and international bilingual textbooks，etc. We won the second prize of the First National Excellent Textbook Construction Award and 5 provincial-level teaching achievement awards; jointly established the "first batch of national animation professional virtual teaching and research room construction sites" with 7 universities including Communication University of China and Beijing Film Academy, etc.
The school deepens the research and innovation of the cross integration of animation majors, and has established research and experimental platforms such as the Jilin International Joint Research Center for Digital Animation Technology, Jilin Virtual Simulation Animation Technology Laboratory, Jilin 3D Interactive Technology Laboratory, and China Animation Excellent Traditional Culture Inheritance Base, etc. It has undertaken major scientific and technological research projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, National Art Fund Art Talent Training Project, the "Double Ten" Project in Jilin Province, and major key scientific and technological research projects in Jilin Province. It has led the drafting and preparation of national animation standards, animation industry standards, local standards, etc., and has a batch of animation key technologies with independent intellectual property rights. It has been awarded the National Science and Technology Innovation Award "Technology Innovation Award" approved by the National Science and Technology Award Work Office, and won the second prize of the "Jilin Province Standard Innovation Contribution Award".
The animated film "The Frog Kingdom" won the "Five One Engineer Award" from the Central Propaganda Department and the "Government Award" of Chinese Culture and Art from the Ministry of Culture. More than a hundred high-level animated works, including The Cat and the Mouse Who will be Buried and Chicken Wants to Fly have won awards in international competitions such as the Hiroshima International Animation Festival in Japan, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, the Stuttgart Animation Festival in Germany, and the Suzdal International Animation Film Festival in Russia; Received the highest domestic animation awards in competitions such as the "Golden Monkey King Award" in Chinese animation, the "Magnolia Award" in Shanghai, and the "Golden Dolphin" award at Xiamen International Animation Festival; Received the second and third prizes for the creation of socialist core values by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.
The school deepens its "Openness and International Orientation" school-running characteristics and conducts exchanges including teachers and students, bilingual course development, international joint art creation, international exhibitions and competitions, and joint research and development of international science and technology projects with nearly 100 international universities in 30 countries. Jointly established the Jilin Province International Joint Research Center for Digital Animation Technology with countries such as France and South Korea; Jointly organized international events such as the Global Animation Challenge and the International Chain Animation Competition with international universities. Excellent students have studied and pursued further education at internationally renowned universities such as Rubika France, University of the Arts London, the Savannah College of Art and Design in the United States etc.
After 23 years of development, our school has delivered more than 13000 excellent animation talents to the society, who have worked in CCTV, Tencent, NetEase, ALPHA, Light Chaser Animation, Perfect World Entertainment, miHOYO, ByteDance, Huaqiang Fangte Animation, PIXOMONDO, South Korea RG Animation Studios and other internationally renowned companies. Students have a high enthusiasm for entrepreneurship and a wide geographical distribution, creating iconic brand enterprises such as "Bolang Shengshi" and "Huaxiang Planning (Beijing) Technology".
