  On 6th December, International Comic Creative Master Class was held by JAI on the 11th floor of industrial building. Head of Malaysia Comicker Union Law Shaw Ming, Malaysia Cartoonist Teo Chin Liong, Chin Sau Khong, China Taiwan Cartoonist Huang Junxiong, NIN separately gave their marvelous speeches and shared their experience. This class was hosted by Assistant Dean of School of Comics Zhan Jingyao.

  Through lectures, speeches, interactions and live drawing, those comic masters explained thoroughly to students how to create comics from the perspective of specific details, lines and graph-making, colors and background. Students attended listened carefully and recorded every details of masters’ experience.

  During the lecture, Law Shaw Ming introduced Malaysian comic market in a humorous way to students. He said that market in Malaysia is quite different from other countries’. Both pupils and middle school students can subscribe or even popularize comics in between, i.e. comics in scientific theme. Chinese comics lead an initial part in the progress of Malaysian comic market.

  Mentioning a children comic I Love My Class, which was published under the help of Teo Chin Liong, he said that it was not an easy thing to publish a comic from financing, promoting to finding agencies. With the emerging of online comic, now the real-body comic market is just like a Coliseum. Only if you are strong enough, can you survive. Trials and chances exist at the same time.

  Chin Sau Khong expressed some of drawing techniques in comics. He said that by telling stories, comics are not only about writing letters. Instead, dialogue frame reflects protagonist’s psychological activities. Most comic artists are passionate in drawing human figure but ignored backgrounds including animals, cars and transportation, weathers, which will help to vividly illustrate a comic.

  Chin Sau Khong introduced his experience to be a comic artist. Initially he majored in illustration. After several years’ experience in educational animation and advertising animation, he learnt how to make animation and portraiture. He said that more knowledge accumulated will stimulate more inspirations.

  How to improve the ability of telling stories concerned by most students. Huang Junwei suggested students should watch more movies to learn how to construct stories including characteristics, plots, interactions, controversies and guesses.

    NIN also shared her personal experience on creation comics. She paid much attention to daily phenomenon like funny things, characters, beautiful sceneries, architectures and delicate food. She suggested that do not pursue success in a hurry before become a mature comic specialist. Instead, they should accumulate more themes and systematically collect them into comic themes.

  During the lecture, Zhan Jingyao awarded the certificates of Guest Professor for the four professors. Through this activity, teachers and students gained much which will make a good foundation for further creation.
