Recently, the faculty representatives of the School of Design of JAI attended the 2023 Cumulus Beijing Conference, which was hosted by the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). Founded in 1990, Cumulus is the largest and most influential international academic organization in the field of art and design education. With the theme of "Narratives of Love - Towards Healing, Transformation and Transcendence", the conference focused on "Crisis and Opportunity", "Ideology and Ideality" and "East and West",and is concerned with the development and innovation in the fields of art, design and media, the dialogue and strength of different fields around the globe, the diversity of teaching, practice and research across regions and cultures, and the social and environmental responsibility of the discipline. and artists to actively build a better world.

After the pre-selection, the academic papers of three teachers from School of Design of JAI, Wang Yunqi, Xie Chenyang and Hu Xiaoyu, were selected for the main and parallel sessions of the conference and qualified to participate in the conference. In the main session, Wang Yunqi focused on the cultural application and value embodiment of traditional lacquer art in modern design, discussing and sharing with the present scholars.

In addition to participating in the main session at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), two teachers from JAI, Xie Chenyang and Hu Xiaoyu, participated in the parallel sessions at the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts and the Nanjing Art Institute, sharing and discussing their selected academic papers respectively.

During the conference, our faculty representatives actively participated in the activities of the conference and had in-depth exchanges and discussions with scholars from Tongji University, Royal College of Art, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Politecnico di Torino of Italy. In addition, the representatives of our university also shared with the representatives of other participating universities our teaching achievements and school running characteristics in the fields of product design, environmental design, art and technology.

JAI has always been upholding the "Openness and International Orientation" school running characteristics, and is committed to providing teachers and students with a broader platform for international exchanges. As a full member of Cumulus, JAI actively participates in the activities of Cumulus and pays close attention to the industry dynamics. With the high-quality platform of this annual meeting, the representatives of our school not only shared their research results, but also broadened their teaching horizons, expanded their academic influence, solidified their academic network through in-depth exchanges with the teachers of the participating institutions and contributed to the high-quality development of the school. In the future, JAI will, as always, deepen the exchange and cooperation with global design and art institutions, and provide a broader academic exchange platform for teachers and students.
