Recently, the Short Comic Creation Workshop of School of Comics of JAI was successfully completed. Adhering to the purpose of promoting professional construction and improving students' ability level, the School of Comics recently invited French cartoonist Alia Ludier to set up the Short Comics Creation Workshop, so as to build an international exchange platform, and open a door to a new realm of comic art for students of School of Comics in JAI.

During the 15-day intensive training in the workshop, students majoring in comics started from the process of comic production, such as comic script setting and script editing, and completed 15 groups of short comic works with the help of Alia's demonstration and explanation, online interactions between teachers and students, and practice after class. Alia payed great attention to personalized guidance, and felt that every student who aspires to shine in the field of comics can find his or her own style. She inspired each student to choose a unique creative style and subject matter based on their own interests and strengths, which not only strengthened their control of comic book subplotting, but also greatly stimulated their potential for originality.

Alia also taught the Class of 2022 comics majors in conjunction with the course “New Media Multi-Panel Comic Creation”, talked with the comics editors of the IP Business Group, and guided the creation of the original projectZoo Mansionby the teachers and students of the comics platform. With her excellent artistic attainments and rich practical experience, Alia led the teachers and students of the comics major into a brand new creative field. In the class, she vividly explained how to create multi-frame comics with both visual impact and narrative depth by skillfully applying split-screen techniques in the new media environment.
Works of Students
The students said that through this study, they have gained a deeper understanding of the profession of cartoonist. They learned how to be bold and innovative on the basis of respecting tradition, how to maintain the artistic and commercial value of works while pursuing individuality, and how to give full play to individual strengths in teamwork. In the course of study, we have not only increased our professional knowledge, but also strengthened our longing for the future path of comic creation. We hope to have more opportunities to participate in such workshops in the future.
The Short Comic Creation Workshop is a manifestation of the “Openness and International Orientation” school-running characteristics of JAI implemented by the School of Comics. The workshop has broadened the international vision of the comic majors, provided them with the world's cutting-edge cartoon knowledge, and set up a platform for foreign exchange. It further deepens the talent cultivation mode of “Integration of Education, Research and Industry” and helps to improve the quality of high-quality applied talent cultivation.
