To further advance professional development and strengthen students' expertise, School of Comics of Jilin Animation Institute recently successfully completed the "Short Comic Creation" workshop. This workshop once again invited the renowned French comic artist Alia Ludier as the instructor, marking her second collaboration with Jilin Animation Institute since their first partnership in 2024. The project aims to build an international exchange platform, offering comic students broader learning perspectives and helping them break new ground in their artistic exploration of comics.
During the intensive one-month workshop, Alia Ludier, with her rich creative experience and unique artistic vision, adopted a multifaceted teaching approach combining classic case studies and personalized one-on-one guidance. She systematically conveyed the core techniques and concepts of short comic creation, sharing valuable insights from her own creative journey—covering everything from story conception and character development to storyboard design and visual presentation. Students were immersed in a creative space where diverse cultural backgrounds intersected, experiencing the dynamic clash and fusion of multifaceted creative thinking.
Under Alia Ludier’s guidance, students began with foundational steps such as comic scriptwriting and storyboard editing, gradually delving into the core aspects of comic creation. They translated their acquired knowledge into practical skills, ultimately producing 20 short comic works of varied styles.
Alia Ludier encouraged students to explore their interests and strengths, daring to experiment with different creative styles and thematic directions. The students' works spanned genres such as action-adventure, fantasy, sci-fi, heartwarming slice-of-life, and suspenseful mysteries, continuously pushing their creative boundaries. This teaching model not only enhanced their storyboard design skills but also ignited their original creative potential.
