Recently, the 2025 6th International College Student Dubbing Contest concluded in Shaoxing. Students majoring in Film and Television Dubbing from Jilin Animation Institute’s School of Film emerged victorious from 15,618 entries submitted by 437 institutions nationwide. They secured a total of two Grand Prizes, one First Prize, four Second Prizes, and six Third Prizes, demonstrating strong competence across multiple competition categories.
Recognized as one of the highest-standard and most influential voice acting art competitions for universities in China, this contest was jointly organized by Communication University of Zhejiang and Sohu Video. It featured five major categories: Game and Animation, Film and Television Drama, Commercials, Documentary, and International. The judging panel, comprised of renowned film and television dubbing directors, animation voice actors, and university professors, ensured the professionalism and fairness of the event. Guided by the principle of “promoting learning through competition, cultivating talent through voice, and boosting industry through creativity,” the contest drove the deep integration of sound education, film and television production, and cultural dissemination.
Jilin Animation Institute students delivered outstanding performances across all categories. Specifically, 2022 cohort students Shang Shuyu, Chen Ziqi, and Han Jize from the Film and Television Dubbing Workshop won the Grand Prize in the Game and Animation Category for their work Don't Mess with the Yordles (ranking second overall). Same cohort students Xie Xinran, Luan Tianrun, et al., secured the Grand Prize in the same category with their entry Arcane (ranking third overall). Furthermore, the students received multiple First, Second, and Third Prizes across the Film and Television, Game and Animation, Documentary, and Commercials categories. Their entries covered diverse themes, including Alice in Wonderland, Hotel Transylvania, The Tale of Wonder Food, and De You Wet Toilet Paper.
These excellent results stem both from the students’ intensive dedication to study and the institute’s systematic support. Since preparations began in late August, participating students quickly formed teams and undertook systematic, high-intensity training. This involved repeatedly viewing the original works, analyzing character emotions, and meticulously polishing the tone and rhythm of their dubbing, sentence by sentence. Supervising instructors followed the process closely throughout, customizing training plans based on students’ individual vocal characteristics—from material selection to technical refinement. They also personally demonstrated techniques, providing precise guidance on emotional expression and breath control, thus helping students break through technical bottlenecks. The institute provided comprehensive support, not only by making professional recording studios and related equipment available but also by inviting industry experts to hold lectures. Furthermore, by utilizing various platforms, such as expert studios and Industry-Academia cooperation training bases, the school built a bridge for students from training to practical application, creating a solid foundation of support for the competition.
This award is a clear manifestation of Jilin Animation Institute's achievements in cultivating film and television dubbing talent, highlighting the institute's commitment to the educational philosophy of fostering moral character and developing talent. Moving forward, the institute will continue to optimize its training model, build more high-quality practical platforms, and assist students in continuously deepening their expertise in the field of voice acting/dubbing art, thereby supplying more outstanding talent for the development of the film and television industry and cultural dissemination.
