Founded in October 2016, the School of General Education evolved from the former Public Basic Teaching Department. Focusing on improving teaching quality, it prioritizes teaching reform, curriculum development and faculty building, adhering to the principle of serving majors, students and society. Upholding the integration of generality with individuality, compulsory with elective courses, and in-class with extracurricular learning, it deepens general education reform and promotes comprehensive quality education, striving to give full play to general courses’ role in the University’s talent training through integrating teaching with research and combining general with professional education.
The School practices the mission of cultivating people with aesthetics, nurturing people with culture, and fostering virtue through education. With a rigorous, responsible and dedicated work style, it follows the teaching philosophy of internal harmony, external image building and mutual progress between teachers and students, committed to enriching general education connotation and building a scientific curriculum system. Under broad general education, it offers courses centered on humanities and arts (core literacy) and society and nature (general literacy), covering 5 modules (literature, art, history, philosophy, law) and 6 dimensions (morality, science, economics and management, entrepreneurship, health, language), available as compulsory, restricted and optional elective courses to meet students’ needs.
The School actively organizes cultural activities such as lectures, exhibitions and knowledge competitions, with two featured brands: Young Scholars Forum and Expert Lecture Hall. Since its establishment, it has held nearly 20 large-scale lectures for the whole university. Through diverse forms including classroom teaching, studio seminars and cultural events, it collaborates with other schools, majors, training platforms and university-affiliated enterprises to help students optimize knowledge structure, cultivate cultural accomplishment, enhance thinking ability, establish correct values and grow into well-rounded new-era talents.
The School has 28 full-time and part-time teachers, 50% of whom hold associate senior or above titles. In recent years, it has won 2 Jilin Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards, undertaken over 20 provincial teaching and research projects, published more than 100 academic papers and 6 textbooks. Many teachers have won provincial teaching awards and university-level honors such as Advanced Individuals, Teaching Quality Award and Excellent Party Members.
