School of Innovation Design

Established in 2026, the School of Innovation Design was evolved from the former School of Design and Product, which was originally founded in 2001. The School offers two undergraduate programs: Visual Communication Design and Environmental Design.

It boasts a wealth of high-level academic achievements, including: National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Site, Provincial First-Class Program Construction Site, National First-Class Undergraduate Course, Provincial Experimental Zone for Innovative Application-oriented Talent Training Mode, Jilin Provincial High-level Characteristic Superior Discipline, Provincial Brand Major, Provincial Pilot Major for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform, Provincial Outstanding Teaching Team of Institutions of Higher Education, Provincial Dual-qualified Master Studio for Design Disciplines, Jilin Provincial Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences — Jilin Traditional Culture Integration and Innovation Research Center, Jilin Provincial Education and Scientific Research Base & Approved Construction Base, as well as Jilin Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Research Base — Jilin Animation Culture Research Base.

Rooted in the University's distinctive schooling features and keeping pace with industry development trends, the School integrates professional education with innovation and promotes industry-education collaboration. Guided by the philosophy of Planning · Creating · Building · Empowering, it focuses on the integrated development of Design + Technology + Culture + Industry + Market, and constructs a talent training model for application-oriented and innovative professionals.
The School employs a combined mechanism of full-time appointment and flexible introduction, recruiting influential domestic and foreign experts, professors and scholars as academic and disciplinary leaders. It adopts a training framework featuring mentorship by renowned teachers, collaboration between expert think tanks and academic backbones, and implements the 1+1 discipline program director mechanism, striving to build a high-level team of dual-qualified teachers with both academic credentials and practical industry experience.

Over the past five years, teachers and students have achieved outstanding results in major competitions including the National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and the Challenge Cup, winning nearly 1,000 high-level awards at home and abroad, fully demonstrating strong innovative and practical capabilities. The School has established in-depth cooperation with nearly 100 enterprises, cultivating a large number of industry backbones. Graduates enjoy high comprehensive quality and excellent employment rates, and have become the backbone force in the cultural and creative industries.

Looking ahead, the School of Innovation Design will closely follow national strategies and strengthen the construction of digital disciplines and majors. Driven by its two core majors — Visual Communication Design and Environmental Design — it covers the two major fields of digital vision and spatial creation. Centering on cultural and creative industries, the School adopts project-based teaching, driven by real-world research topics. It advocates learning by doing and innovating through research, promotes integration of art and technology, and links design with practical practice, so as to cultivate high-quality interdisciplinary innovative design talents.
