On September 8, the youth campus micro-drama Stay Away from Me kicked off its shooting and wrapped the first scene on the same day. Co-produced by Jilin Animation Institute, Jilin Jidong Yishuo Film & Media Co., Ltd. and Fanqie Novel, the production team is mainly composed of the Institute’s teachers and students. This project marks another key practice of the Institute to deepen integration of industry and education, bridging classroom teaching with real industrial practice.
Adapted from the popular novel of the same name by Fanqie Novel signed writer “Jian Feng Bu Jian Yu”, the drama will premiere on Hongguo Short Drama Platform. It is the 7th micro-drama led or co-produced by Jilin Animation Institute, demonstrating its continuous efforts in film and television creation and maturing its talent cultivation model of “teaching through projects and fostering growth via practical production”.
Centered on students from the Civil Aviation College, Stay Away from Me tells a coming-of-age story of young people chasing dreams of aviation. The heroine aspires to be a female captain, while the hero devotes himself to aircraft mechanical engineering to safeguard flight safety with craftsmanship. Beyond campus youth and dreams, the drama integrates patriotism of civil aviation into scenarios such as simulator training and aircraft maintenance, presenting a portrait of contemporary youth balancing passion and responsibility.
The shooting site functions as a classroom, training all-round film talents in line with industrial standards. Leveraging its industry-education integration platform, the Institute builds immersive on-set teaching covering script adaptation, filming and post-production. Students majoring in performance, directing, cinematography, sound recording and other disciplines work together in a real crew to experience professional workflows. Supported by the Institute’s post-production platform, the whole project follows industrial norms, enabling students to learn by doing and develop professional competence and industrial thinking.
A pre-production meeting was held before the shoot to fulfill dual goals of high-quality filming and effective teaching. The meeting set requirements for production quality and teaching outcomes, with closed-loop management for staffing, equipment, on-site control and risk prevention. Director Xu Yunfan interpreted the core storyline and visual concepts. Team members discussed narrative structure, shooting schedules and teaching integration, refining work standards and job responsibilities, and turning the “project-driven teaching” concept into phased practical training plans.
The aviation simulator serves both as a shooting set and a practical training classroom. Through real commercial projects, Jilin Animation Institute connects campus education with the industry, cultivating high-quality film talents meeting market demands.
Going forward, Jilin Animation Institute will further promote industry-education integration and develop more high-standard, market-oriented film projects across the whole film production chain to keep teaching aligned with industrial development. As young students gain practical skills in simulators and build creative capabilities on set, new youthful talent for China’s film industry will take flight from here.
