Recently, the results of the 2024 Hans Christian Andersen International Art Award were announced, and works created by teachers and students of JAI’s School of Comics won 3 gold awards and 11 silver awards.
The Hans Christian Andersen International Art Award was founded by the Danish Committee for the Development of Culture and the Arts and co-sponsored by the Danish Andersen Society (Copenhagen). The award was established to commemorate Andersen's achievements in culture and art and to recognize international artistic creation. It is one of the most influential awards in the global art field with "innovation, humanity, and imagination" as the core selection criteria. This competition attracted nearly 10,000 artists and college teachers and students from all over the world. The works submitted by our school's School of Comics are rich in types, covering narrative comics, digital illustrations, experimental animations and other categories. With their extremely high creative standards, these works eventually won the high recognition of the jury.
Among the works that won the gold award, "Golden Snake Guardian" takes a winding golden snake as the center of the picture. The flexible lines and bright colors show the majesty and agility of the snake to the fullest, symbolizing the prosperity and auspiciousness of the Year of the Snake; "Yunmengze" is based on the ancient book "Classic of Mountains and Seas", and uses ancient lines and strokes to depict the mythical beast Bai Ze, delicately outlining the mysterious form of Bai Ze, showing the unique charm of oriental aesthetics; in "Afternoon", the picture seems to be a cheerful movement, with warm-toned sunshine pouring freely, and the girl full of youthful vitality and the naive summoned beast echoing each other, perfectly blending, and jointly showing an afternoon full of fantasy and joy.
The award-winning teacher said: "JAI adheres to the teaching philosophy of 'promoting learning through competition and educating people through creation', and encourages teachers and students to transform classroom theories into artistic practice." "Artistic creation needs to be rooted in cultural soil and embrace technological changes. This award is not only a personal honor, but also a verification of the results of the interdisciplinary teaching model of the Cartoon Academy." The award-winning student said: "From topic selection and research to finished product polishing, the full guidance of the tutor made me deeply understand the responsibility of art - it is not only to express oneself, but also to convey the voice of the times."
Focusing on the school's "Openness and International Orientation " educational characteristics, the School of Comics has established cooperation with many overseas art schools to carry out the "studio + project system" teaching model, providing students with full support from creative incubation to industrial implementation. The harvest of the Andersen International Art Award is an affirmation of the professional ability of teachers and students of the School of Comics. In addition, the School of Comics will continue to use creative practice as a link to cultivate applied talents with both cultural heritage and innovative thinking, so that Chinese comic stories can shine on the world stage.
