At 3:00 PM on December 19th, the 9th College GAME JAM CHALLENGE (48 GAME JAM) officially kicked off at the Jilin Animation Institute. When creativity meets time-limited challenges and diverse forces gather through passion, this game marathon—themed "Intelligent Future, Boundless Imagination"—attracted participants from 26 prestigious domestic and international universities. The participating institutions include Saint Petersburg State University of Film and Television (Russia), Chungkang College of Cultural Industries (South Korea), as well as Peking University, Renmin University of China, Tongji University, Jilin University, Dalian University of Technology, Beijing Jiaotong University, Fuzhou University, Communication University of China, Zhejiang Normal University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Huaqiao University, Jilin Normal University, Jingdezhen Ceramic University, Lanzhou City University, Jilin Business and Technology University, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Shanghai Theatre Academy, Jilin University of the Arts, Beihai Art and Design Institute, Hebei Academy of Fine Arts, Jilin Animation Institute, Shanghai Arts and Crafts Vocational College, Fuzhou Software Technology Vocational College, and Fuzhou Yinghua Vocational College.
The contestants formed 23 teams to sprint through an intense 48-hour competition. Empowering creativity with professionalism and overcoming obstacles through collaboration, they transformed their visions of the future into 23 concrete game projects, creating a brilliant highlight of the entire event.

Over the past eight sessions, 48 GAME JAM has consistently encouraged participants to form international and intercollegiate teams, fostering cross-cultural communication and exchange. In this year’s event, the multinational collaboration of the team "Colorful Unicorn" stands as a prime example of cross-cultural synergy. When Student Mao from Jilin Animation Institute shared a map design inspired by traditional Chinese culture with students from Saint Petersburg State University of Film and Television (Russia) and Chungkang College of Cultural Industries (South Korea), it sparked an immediate creative resonance, leading to the formation of a five-member team. The team name, derived from a logo designed by the art members, not only demonstrates professional recognition among teammates but also serves as a creative bridge across national borders. This collision of different cultural backgrounds has endowed their creative perspective with greater diversity.

The "Universal Heavy Industry" (万象重工) production team is a perfect manifestation of inter-school strength. The lead organizer, Student Zhao from the Hebei Academy of Fine Arts, brought a mature portfolio that includes publishing independent games on Steam. He extended invitations to students from multiple universities, and 7 students from the Hebei Academy of Fine Arts, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and Beihai Art and Design Institute hit it off immediately due to their shared creative pursuits. This inter-school collaboration was built on trust and tacit understanding from the very beginning, with their complementary professional skills making the creative process highly efficient. As a member of the team, Student Zhang from the Hebei Academy of Fine Arts expressed: "Taking on a 48-hour extreme challenge allows me to push my limits and find like-minded partners. Plus, getting to visit Jilin Animation Institute at the same time makes this a total win!"
The team named "Group" (组) embodies a sense of relaxation and cross-disciplinary vitality. With members hailing from Jilin University, Jilin University of the Arts, and Jilin Animation Institute, the team covers multiple domains, including game design, sound effects, art, and programming. They admitted that the team name was chosen spontaneously to keep decision-making simple. Although they initially spent a long time debating diverse ideas, their communication remained seamless throughout, keeping the "progress bar" at full speed. This cross-school and cross-disciplinary combination allowed creative collisions to have greater tension, injecting a unique vitality into their work.
Continuing the spirit of open collaboration demonstrated during team formation, each group conducted a deep deconstruction and narrative practice of "the future" centered around the theme "Intelligent Future, Boundless Imagination."The team "9.99" focused on the profound proposition of "Cultural Heritage." They boldly set the story in the year 3000, where human civilization is on the brink of extinction, and survivors gather in a small town to keep the flame of humanity alive. The protagonist, "Player" (普雷尔)—a homophone of the English word "player"—is tasked with the core mission of collecting ink and pens to write the history of civilization. To finalize this plot, the team brainstormed over a dozen concepts, eventually abandoning common time-travel tropes in favor of using delicate settings to convey their reflections on the continuity of civilization.

Regarding the theme of this year's challenge, "Intelligent Future, Boundless Imagination," Student Xu from the Communication University of China—a member of Team IMIRG—remarked: "The goal is to boldly integrate emerging technologies and imagine a future world-view to create games." This insight became the core guidance for the team's creative brainstorming. He stated that it was his passion for emerging technologies that initially inspired him to sign up for the challenge. He aimed to experiment with AI-driven gameplay and seek the perfect intersection of creativity and technology within this atmosphere of inter-school collaboration.
Throughout the competition, participants frequently shared their insights on how AI empowers game creation. Student Xu from Team IMIRG remarked, "This will be a major mainstream trend in the future of game development." He added that "the process of attempting to design and refine gameplay during the competition gave me a profound sense of achievement." Student Zhang from Team Universal Heavy Industry offered a more nuanced perspective: "While AI still has limitations in script generation and visual creation, it remains an exceptional tool. The expansion of AI is, in essence, an industrial revolution of a new era. It should serve as a partner that provides insights, helping us reach new heights. Much like collaboration between human partners, we must define clear boundaries—AI shouldn't create entirely in isolation, but we shouldn't become entirely dependent on it either."

Mikhail Konovalov, a faculty advisor from the Saint Petersburg State University of Film and Television (Russia), stated that while AI is a powerful and useful assistant, its role ends there. "It performs exceptionally well in routine tasks such as quickly retrieving information, providing reference ideas, and assisting with technical work," he noted. "However, when it comes to true creativity—such as generating unique imagery, crafting a distinct style, or producing live-action animation—its capabilities fall short. Therefore, we consistently advocate to our students that AI should only be used for surface-level and auxiliary stages. We must always retain the final right of review and, most importantly, guard the core of creation: maintaining creative thinking and an artistic perspective."
The 48-hour countdown eventually hit zero, but the flame of creativity never flickered out. From the cultural fusion of multinational teams to the profound reflections on "the future"; from the strategic choice between AI and hand-drawn artistry to the sleepless, collaborative perseverance—every story recorded and every silent struggle on this field collectively defined the true essence of "Intelligent Future, Boundless Imagination." The value of creation has always resided in the courage to explore and a passion that gives its all.
These rising stars, who may very well define the future of gaming, used these 48 hours to set sail. With games as their vessel and code as their oars, they navigated together toward a future horizon belonging to innovation, cooperation, and infinite possibilities.
