On May 15th, the "Intangible Cultural Heritage in Jilin" Cross-Straits College Students Cultural Exchange Activity was held at Jilin Animation Institute. This activity was approved as a key exchange project for China Taiwan by the Exchange Bureau of Taiwan Affairs Office of The State Council. With the theme of "Observing the Future, Seeing the Mountains and Seas - Innovation Communication and New Consumption Salon of Culture and Tourism", it aims to build a bridge for cultural exchanges between Jilin and Taiwan,China through cultural creativity, showcase the cultural charm of "Diversity of Jilin Animation Institute and Charming of Jilin", and promote exchanges and cooperation between young people across Taiwan Strait in the fields of academia and culture.
This event gathered teachers and students from 9 universities from Taiwan, China, they participated the activity online, and the teachers and students of JAI participated offline. Professor Yi Shuyan, the literature doctor and professor from Northeast Normal University, Associate Professor Yue Lin from the School of Design of Jilin University of the Arts, and Lu Xianna, a young teacher from School of Comic of Jilin Animation Institute, were invited to attend offline discussion and give keynote lectures.
Lecture by Professor Yi Shuyan
In Yi Shuyan’s lecture titled "Appreciating the Classic of Mountains and Seas and Drawing the Scrolls across the Strait", she discussed deeply the popularity and wide attention of the Classic of Mountains and Seas IP and the strangeness of the text, and emphasized the important influence of this ancient classic on the modern cultural and creative industry. She said that in recent years, an endless stream of animation, games, films and television works, and design works based on the Classic of Mountains and Seas were appeared, which have won wide recognition in the market with their unique artistic style and profound cultural connotation. The modern cultural and creative industry re-creates the mythological legends, geographical features and folk culture elements in this classic through new art forms, breathing new life into the ancient culture.
Lecture by Professor Yue Lin
Professor Yue Lin focused on the development and visual design of cultural and creative products of Dashengwula, leading everyone to appreciate the charm of the Wula Manchu culture. She introduced ten series of cultural and creative products successfully developed in Jilin Province based on the in-depth excavation and sorting out of the historical culture of Dashengwula. These products not only showcase the traditional characteristics of the Northeast region but also integrate modern design concepts and become new carriers for spreading the regional culture of Jilin.
Lecture by Teacher Lu Xianna
In the keynote lecture titled Chinese Style Animation Displays the Prestige of the Mainland, and Youth on Both Sides of the Taiwan region Promote Cultural Prosperity, Lu Xianna reviewed the development process of Chinese style animation and looked forward to its future under the application of new technologies. He said that while showcasing the essence of Chinese culture, Chinese style animation is constantly innovating and developing, bringing a more colorful visual experience to the audience.
Over the years, Jilin Animation Institute has established cooperative relations with 24 universities in Taiwan region, such as Taipei University of the Arts and Taiwan University of the Arts, and carried out cultural exchanges between schools. In the future, JAI will continue to strengthen mutual learning and exchanges between young people on both sides of China Taiwan and jointly inherit and promote the excellent traditional Chinese culture.
