In the afternoon on March 21, the Consul General of Consulate General of the United States in Shenyang, China, Mr. Gregory May and his delegation of four visited the Jilin Animation Institute (JAI), joined the Sino-U.S. Culture Salon, Season 2, and watched the feature film The Sixth Sense with the teachers and students of JAI. The Director of Changchun Foreign Affairs Office (CCFAO), Mr. Qi Guohua, and the Head of Department of America and Canada of CCFAO, Mr. Geng Hailong, the Chairman and President of JAI, Mr. Zheng Liguo, the Vice Chairman and Vice President, Ms. Liu Xin, the Standing Vice Director of Planning and Strategic Development, Ms. Bao Yiping, Director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office, Ms. Miao Luxi, jointly received the delegation.

Visiting the Museums

In the afternoon on March 21, the Consul General of Consulate General of the United States in Shenyang, China, Mr. Gregory May, his wife Ms. Margret May, their son, Benjamin, the Culture Consul, Ms. Thanh C. Kim and the Culture Assistant, Ms. Yu Li visited the Jilin Animation Institute. With the warm reception of the leaders, they visited the History Museum, the Animation and Comics Museum, and the Song Lin Museum.

In the History Museum, the delegation watched the promotional video of JAI and the original 4D short film Froglympics. They had a deep understanding of the schooling characteristics of JAI and praised the animation producing ability of our teachers and students. The delegation also tried the VR motion sensing games and interactive products which are independently developed by the JAI.

In the Animation and Comics Museum, the objects in the museum aroused the delegation’s interest. Especially, when they saw the stills of animation Mu Di, and Prince Nezha’s Triumph Against Dragon King, Mr. and Ms. May exclaimed that they had watched these before and they are all classic animations. And when they saw the original manuscripts in early ages from all over the world in the museum, Ms. May praised that these are all priceless treasure! Mr. Gregory May also praised that he would like to spend more time in the museum and he wished to come to visit them in the next time. Thus became an appointment in the spring between the Mr. Gregory May and the Jilin Animation Institute.

Watch Classic Film, and Bridge the Culture Exchange between China and the United States

After the visit in the History Museum, the Sino-U.S. Culture Salon was grandly opened. In the Culture Salon, Mr. Gregory May brought us the feature film The Sixth Sense. The film was nominated for the Best Picture, Directing, Actor in the Supporting Role, Actress in the Supporting Role, Writing (Original Screenplay), Film Editing in the 72th Academy Award and numerous other honors and awards.

Mr. Gregory May analyzed the film and shared with the students his ideas and feelings. When he was interviewed by the press, he said, “As the development of film industry, more and more people would like to know about the American culture through films. And the American producers also value the Chinese audience’s favors. And such activity will promote the cooperation and exchange between China and the United States”.

Mr. Gregory May spoke highly of the Jilin Animation Institute. He said, “The Jilin Animation Institute is very large, and it has cultivated numerous outstanding talents for the industry and has significant influence in the animation and film industry. In animation industry, the JAI has many projects cooperated with the American companies. And we will actively provide support to such kind of cooperation and exchange.”

The Chairman and President, Mr. Zheng Liguo also said, “American films are well-known in the world. And they are the leading roles in technology and art. This Culture Salon will bring positive benefit in film production and creation for the JAI. In the future, the JAI will not only connect with the American film companies and industry, but also will have a comprehensive fusion of global film art, film technology and film market.”

Since its foundation, the JAI is always keeping a close connect with the Consulate General of the United States in Shenyang, China. The both sides had held the Culture Salon, Season 1 in November, 2016. Through watching the film and sharing ideas, it can promote the cultural exchange between China and the United States.

The Culture Salon was praised by many students. They said, “the Culture Salon not only enriches their spare time after the class, but also broaden their views and they can learn more knowledge”.
